The Ethnological Museum of Thrace since its establishment aims to fulfill the educational and social role through planning and delivering educational programmes to a variety of social groups. The historical context of the museum is an inspiration, a tool of active learning and enjoyment in the course of which children meet their traditional culture and develop their artistic, aesthetic, and emotional learning.

As the museum refers to the past, complements knowledge acquired in schools through museum experience without replacing it but on contrary giving to children the chance to meet their past, live creatively the present through a variety of educational activities and strengthen their knowledge, social behaviour and critical thinking.

Every single educational programme or activity of the Museum is a meeting point of the present with the past, a trip to the history of culture where knowledge is not transmitted but it is discovered and experienced through dialogue, team-working, play and creativity.

The educational programmes of the Museum can be delivered either as they are being suggested by the museum staff or they can be changed by creating new programmes in order to meet children’s needs and interests aiming to link to the cross-curriculum of primary and secondary education.
