My interactive relationship with the traditional world of Thrace, led me to founding the museum. The Museum’s aim is to preserve and promote what is most authentic, most original in Thrace: the self-expression of the ethnic groups who made their home in the area. I want to believe that the ethnological and historical exhibits of the EMT, which have been collected with great effort over a long period of time, preserve local history and tradition as part of a force that not only looks back to the past but also helps shape the future. The Ethnological Museum of Thrace-Aggeliki Giannakidou, is a self financed project and at times sponsored by the Stauros Niarchos Foundation and the Ministry of Culture. It operates with the form of a legal Non Profit Civil Organization. |
