The thematic structure of the Museum is organised in such a way as to give visitors a clear picture of traditional life in Thrace from the late 17th to the early 20th century.

The display has been built up from Ms Giannakidou’s personal collection of 2,500 objects and research material. The objects, the photographs, the wall panels, the pervasive scent of roses, and the background music composed by Yorgos Papadakis set the imagination free and help the visitors to remember.

Visitors also have a choice of videos to watch in the basement:

  • "The History of Thrace", written by Konstandinos Hadzopoulos, Professor in the School of History and Ethnology, Democritus University of Thrace
  • "The Natural Environment and Traditional Crops from Prehistoric Times to the Present Day", in association with Nikos Efstratiou, bio-archaeologist and Professor in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; directed by Papadopoulos
  • "Places of Worship in Evros Prefecture": research by Angeliki Giannakidou; words by Alkis Prepis, Professor in the Democritus University of Thrace and member of the Greek National Committee of the ICOMOS; directed by Tsokli and Behlivanidis
